Few Facts about the JEE Main
The JEE Main requires you to solve 30 questions in 60 minutes. Barring a few, most of the questions are either easy or medium in difficulty. While it roughly takes 20-25 marks to pass the Physics cut off in JEE Main, you need more than 85 marks to be in the top 1000 ranks. Well, considering a decent speed and precision, it requires 23+ attempts with more than 90% precision to secure a place in the top 1000.
Important points to note are that almost 80% of the questions are calculation-based and preparing the subject is easily manageable with the board exams. This also makes it imperative to double check the possible calculation errors. NCERT would be highly useful in chapters like Modern Physics, Thermodynamics, and Electromagnetism.
Few Facts about the JEE Advanced Physics
In contrast to the JEE Main Physics, the Advanced paper has 36-42 questions to be solved in 120 minutes which brings us to an average of nearly 3 minutes per question. But, you need to be very careful as these questions require in-depth study and speed. The JEE Advanced Physics questions require nearly 38% marks for passing and if your score 75% marks, you are surely in the top 1000. If you attempt 32+ questions with 90% accuracy, you can manage 75% marks. Additionally, Advanced has more confusing options, so it is highly mandatory to cross-check.
Few Important Topics
It is often said that the JEE Main/Advanced and the textbook syllabus is the same. However, there are minor changes and students often miss out on the topics that have recently been added to the JEE. A primary reason for this is that you don’t often find these questions in the previous papers. It is therefore recommended to follow good websites who offer simulated tests with adjustments based on the latest syllabus changes.
In Physics, few topics that are easy-scorers include Error Analysis, Experiments and Instruments, Surface Tension, and Semiconductor Devices. The best part about these chapters is that scoring in these gives you an easy edge over others.
