- Only those students who are selected by states/Union Territories on the basis of their screening examination (NTSE Stage I conducted by States) shall be eligible to appear in NTSE Stage II to be conducted by NCERT. Each State/Union Territory has a quota embarked which is calculated on the basis of students’ enrollment at secondary level with a minimum of 10 for UT and 25 for a state. However, the marks obtained in NTSE Stage I is not added in the Stage II exam.
- However, for students with Indian nationality studying abroad at class X level and willing to pursue higher studies in India can also appear in NTSE Stage II. Such candidates can apply by sending request to NCERT through head of the institution where they are studying along with the attested copy of class IX. Such requests can be made to Head Educational Survey Division, NCERT, New Delhi – 16 within stipulated time. Such candidates are exempted from appearing for state level examination (NTSE Stage I) and permitted to directly appear for stage II examination provided they have secured at least 60% in the previous examination. NCERT allots roll numbers to such eligible students. However, scholarship shall be paid to selected candidates for pursuing studies in India only.
